Kate is tekstbewerker vol met mogelijkheden
Kate is volgepakt met functies die het voor u gemakkelijker maakt om al uw tekstbestanden te bekijken en bewerken. Kate laat u veel bestanden op hetzelfde moment bewerken en bekijken, zowel in tabbladen als in gesplitste weergaven en komt met een brede variëteit van plug-ins, inclusief een ingebedde terminal die u opdrachten op de console laat starten direct vanuit Kate, krachtige plug-ins voor zoeken en vervangen en een voorbeeldplug-in die u kunt laten zien hoe uw MD, HTML en zelfs SVG er uit zal zien.
Uw code er prettig uit laten zien met syntaxisaccentuering
Kate ondersteunt accentuering voor meer dan 300 talen waarmee het gemakkelijker is om code te lezen in bijna alle programmeertalen. Kate begrijpt ook hoe haakjes werken en zal u helpen bij navigeren in complexe blokken code met hiërarchieën. On-the-fly spellingcontrole is ook meegenomen en zal u helpen uw tekst te controleren voor publicatie.

U kunt elke sneltoets in Kate configureren dus u hoeft zichzelf niet opnieuw te trainen.

Werk aan meerdere bestanden tegelijkertijd met gesplitste weergaven. Gebruik de projectzijbalk om door de structuur van uw projectmappen te navigeren en gebruik de slimme tabbladen van Kate om snel toegang te krijgen tot uw recent geopende documenten. Het krachtige hulpmiddel zoeken en vervangen laat u snel zoeken in uw gehele projecten.
Ontwikkel uw volgende toepassing met Kate
Kate is het perfecte hulpmiddel voor programmeren omdat het automatisch aanvullen voor vele talen bevat met de hulp van het Language Server Protocol (LSP). De bewerker is geoptimaliseerd voor bewerken van code en biedt automatisch inspringen met scripts, VI invoermethode, rechthoekige blokselectiemodus, slimme behandeling van commentaar en dat ongedaan maken en nog veel meer.
Plug-ins
Kate bevat veel plug-ins die standaard geïnstalleerd zijn, waarmee het krachtiger dan elke andere tekstbewerker is gemaakt. Gebruik de geïntegreerde terminalemulator om opdrachten uit te voeren direct vanuit Kate, voer SQL queries uit met de SQL extensie, gebruik GDB om uw programma te debuggen, bouw projecten met slechts één klik en veel, veel meer.

Kate KF6 Status
Current state of the port Thanks to the help of our contributors the current state of Kate for the upcoming first Qt & KF 6 release looks very promising. This includes not just people working on Kate and KTextEditor/KSyntaxHighlighing, but all of KDE Frameworks and Qt.
I now use the KF 6 based version both at work and home exclusively after we switched the master branch over to that. So far, beside the natural issues that can occur using a branch under active development, nothing really did stick out as a blocking issue.

Introducing The Embedded Terminal on Windows
Kate has been supported on Windows for a long time however, we missed one crucial feature on Windows that made it not as good as Kate on Linux. That feature was the built-in terminal. If you are a developer you might have to use the terminal a lot and having a built-in terminal inside your editor can be really helpful and convenient.
With 23.04, we have filled this gap. After a hectic weekend of 20+ hours of hacking on a borrowed windows machine and sacrificing a lot of other things, Kate now has a built-in terminal on Windows as well.

Using Kate's Git Features
Git support in Kate landed almost 2 years ago but so far it is undocumented. I am writing this article in order to fill this gap and hopefully make more people aware of the git related features that Kate has.
To be able to use git functionality you need to enable at least two plugins
